Social Work Ethics Series

Hosted by the Tennessee Department of Health

Join the Tennessee Department of Health for a three-part Social Work Ethics Series focused on understanding and applying the Social Work Code of Ethics in professional practice.

Across three training sessions, participants will explore the purpose, structure, values, and ethical principles of the Social Work Code of Ethics; examine burnout and the Code’s guidance related to self-care and community well-being; and learn an ethical decision-making framework that can be applied to ethical dilemmas in social work practice. Each session incorporates self-reflection and opportunities to connect ethical concepts to professional experiences and case examples.

Learning Objectives

Participants will:

  • Define the meaning and purpose of the Social Work Code of Ethics and examine its structure, values, and ethical principles.
  • Define burnout and explore its prevalence and impact within the social work profession.
  • Examine revisions to the Code of Ethics related to self-care and explore the connection between self-care and community well-being.
  • Define an ethical dilemma and identify the steps in an ethical decision-making framework.
  • Apply an ethical decision-making framework to social work cases and practice situations.
